CJAA Texas Jet Blast

The 6th Annual CJAA Texas Jet Blast was held September 3-6, 2026 at Sulphur Springs Municipal Airport (KSLR) in Sulphur Springs, Texas. It had been originally planned for May, but weather forced a cancellation and it was moved to the Labor Day weekend. The Texas summer was brutal and extended into September. This event will be remembered as the ‘Hotter-Than-Heck Texas Jet Blast!’

Ten L-39s attended with a T-6 Texan and Bell Uh-1H Huey to add excitement to the ramp. Five of the L-39s were first time attendees. Five members worked on their Formation and Safety Team (FAST) Wing card. Two of the five successfully completed their Recommendation Ride and should earn their FAST WING card at the next event.FAST is a worldwide organization dedicated to teaching safe formation flying for ‘warbird aircraft,’ which are former military aircraft.

A highlight of the event was a seven-ship formation flight, plus a camera ship, to the Mid-America Flight Museum located at Mt. Pleasant Regional Airport (KOSA) in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Russell Armstrong flew his passenger loaded UH-1H Huey to the museum as well. This museum houses a stunning collection of aircraft and is a bucket list location for an aviation enthusiast.

THANKS to Russell who hosted the event. KSLR was the perfect location and included a aerobatic box for airshow practice and additional training. A big applause goes to Joey Baker, KSLR Airport Manager, and his team that supported the Texas Jet Blast and kept the ten thirsty jets topped off in the scorching Texas heat.

Michigan Stadium Formation

An amazing opportunity CJAA members had Saturday at University of Michigan vs Iowa State football game.

Updated terms in recent FAA regulations gave our pilots the honor of representing our country during the National Anthem prior to kickoff.

This occasion instills our philosophy of protecting the right to fly classic jets with the least amount of regulation and restrictions commensurate with the safe operation of our aircraft.

Go Blue!!!

From the Archives: A Jet Blast Throwback at KOZW

The September Jet Blast at KOZW brought together nine jets from across the country for a memorable weekend filled with aviation, camaraderie, and shared passion for classic jet flying. While strong winds on Friday delayed planned formation flights, the weather improved by early evening, allowing for smooth arrivals and the first flights of the weekend. Members and guests were welcomed with warm cider and donuts during the early mornings, setting a relaxed and inviting tone for the days ahead. The evening concluded with a tomahawk steak dinner at Moose Ridge, where great food and even better conversation helped strengthen friendships and kick off the weekend on a high note.

Saturday began with a three-ship formation flight to Jackson, Michigan, in support of Aviation Day. The group enjoyed a lively atmosphere and the opportunity to share their enthusiasm for aviation with the broader community. Following the event, pilots conducted a two-ship formation flight to Y31 to activate the aerobatic box, then transitioned into three- and four-ship formations to continue refining formation skills. The day showcased not only precise flying but also the teamwork and professionalism that define the Classic Jet Aircraft Association.

The weekend concluded on Sunday under calm, clear skies—ideal conditions for early morning flights and afternoon departures. As jets departed and the weekend came to a close, it was clear that the September Jet Blast was another successful gathering. A sincere thank you goes out to everyone who attended, supported, and helped make this event both safe and memorable. We look forward to many more weekends like this on the flight line.
